Alabama Remote Online Notary State Laws
Online notarizations are legally recognized in Alabama through interstate acceptance.
While Alabama does not currently have its own remote online notarization (RON) statute, it does honor notarizations carried out legally in other states. This means that an online notarization completed by a notary licensed in a state that allows RON is valid and enforceable in Alabama, provided it complies with the commissioning state’s laws. Relevant Alabama statutes supporting this interstate recognition include Ala. Code §§ 35-4-26, 35-4-27, and 12-21-4.
Alaska Remote Online Notary State Laws
Alaska authorizes its notaries to perform online notarizations pursuant to Alaska Stat. §§ 44.50.075 et seq.
Additionally, Alaska accepts remote notarizations carried out in other states, as long as they follow the laws of the notary’s jurisdiction. This recognition of out-of-state notarizations is supported by Alaska Stat. § 09.63.050.
Arizona Remote Online Notary State Laws

Arizona allows its notaries to carry out online notarizations under Ariz. Rev. Stat. Ann. §§ 41-371 et seq. (until June 30, 2022) and Ariz. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 41-263 (effective June 30, 2022).
Moreover, Arizona honors online notarizations conducted by notaries from other states, provided they are properly executed under the laws of that state. Arkansas Remote Online Notary State Laws

California Remote Online Notary State Laws

Online notarizations are valid and binding in California through interstate recognition.
Although California does not have its own remote online notarization (RON) statute, it accepts notarizations that are legally conducted by notaries from other states. This means that if a notary commissioned in a state with RON authority performs an online notarization following their state’s laws, it is valid and enforceable in California. The relevant California statutes for interstate recognition are Cal. Civ. Code §§ 1182, 1189, and 1193.
Colorado allows its commissioned notaries to perform online notarizations under Colo. Rev. Stat. §§ 24-21-506 and 24-21-514.5.
In addition, Colorado accepts remote notarizations properly completed by notaries from other states. The relevant statutes governing interstate recognition include Colo. Rev. Stat. §§ 24-21-511, 38-30-126, and 38-35-105.

Connecticut Remote Online Notary State Laws

Connecticut recognizes the validity and enforceability of online notarizations through interstate acceptance.
Although Connecticut lacks its own remote online notarization (RON) statute this time, it acknowledges notarizations properly conducted by notaries licensed in other states. Thus, an online notarization carried out by a notary commissioned in a state with a RON law is valid and enforceable in Connecticut when completed following the laws of that commissioning state. The relevant statutes for interstate recognition include Conn. Gen. Stat. §§ 1-30, 1-57, 47-5a, 47-7, and 52-148c.
Delaware Remote Online Notary State Laws

Effective August 1, 2023, Delaware authorizes notaries to perform online notarizations under Del. Code Ann. tit. 29, § 4320.
Moreover, Delaware recognizes remote notarizations properly executed by notaries from other states. The applicable laws for interstate recognition include Del. Code Ann. tit. 25, §§ 129 and 171, along with tit. 29, § 4324.
Florida Remote Online Notary State Laws

Florida authorizes its notaries to perform online notarizations pursuant to Fla. Stat. §§ 117.201 et seq.
In addition, Florida recognizes online notarizations that are properly performed by notaries of other states. The applicable interstate recognition laws are Fla. Stat. §§ 92.50, 695.03, & 90.902.
Georgia Remote Online Notary State Laws

In Georgia, online notarizations are legally valid and enforceable through interstate recognition.
Although Georgia does not have its own remote online notarization (RON) statute, it accepts notarizations correctly performed by notaries commissioned in other states. This means an online notarization carried out by a notary from a state that permits RON is valid and enforceable in Georgia, as long as it follows the laws of that notary’s home state. The governing interstate recognition statutes in Georgia are Ga. Code Ann. §§ 44-2-21, 44-2-17, 44-14-34, 44-14-62, and 9-10-113.

Hawaii permits its notaries to conduct online notarizations under Haw. Rev. Stat. § 456-23.
In addition, Hawaii accepts remote notarizations legally completed by notaries commissioned in other states. The relevant statutes for recognizing out-of-state notarizations are Haw. Rev. Stat. §§ 502-45, 502-46, and 621-13.
Idaho Remote Online Notary State Laws

Idaho authorizes its notaries to perform online notarizations pursuant to Idaho Code § 51-114A.
In addition, Idaho recognizes online notarizations that are properly performed by notaries of other states. The applicable interstate recognition laws are Idaho Code §§ 51-111, 55-805, & 9-1401.
Illinois Remote Online Notary State Laws

Illinois authorizes its notaries to perform online notarizations pursuant to 5 Ill. Comp. Stat. 312/3-105 & 312/6A-101 et seq (effective upon the adoption of rules).
In addition, Illinois recognizes online notarizations that are properly performed by notaries of other states. The applicable interstate recognition laws are 765 Ill. Comp. Stat. 30/2 & 5/20 and 5 Ill. Comp. Stat. 255/6.
Indiana Remote Online Notary State Laws

Indiana allows its notaries to conduct online notarizations under Ind. Code Ann. §§ 33-42-.05-3 et seq. and 33-42-17-1 et seq.
Furthermore, Indiana accepts online notarizations properly carried out by notaries commissioned in other states. The relevant laws for interstate recognition are Ind. Code Ann. §§ 33-42-9-8 and 34-37-1-5.
Iowa Remote Online Notary State Laws

Iowa authorizes its notaries to execute online notarizations under Iowa Code §§ 9B.6 and 9B.14A.

Kentucky authorizes its notaries to perform online notarizations pursuant to Ky. Rev. Stat. Ann. §§ 423.300 et seq.
In addition, Kentucky recognizes online notarizations that are properly performed by notaries of other states. The applicable interstate recognition laws are Ky. Rev. Stat. Ann. §§ 423.345, 423.110, & 382.160.
Louisiana Remote Online Notary State Laws

Remote Online Notarization (RON) is permitted in Louisiana parishes for notaries who are commissioned to perform it.
RON was legalized in Louisiana in February 2022 with the enactment of House Bill 274. To qualify, Louisiana notaries must complete a state-approved online training course, pass an assessment, and register with a certified Remote Online Notarization technology provider.
Maine Remote Online Notary State Laws

Maine allows its notaries to perform online notarizations under Me. Stat. tit. 4, § 1915 (effective July 1, 2023).
Additionally, Maine accepts remote notarizations properly completed by notaries commissioned in other states. The applicable statutes for interstate recognition are Me. Stat. tit. 4 §§ 1011 and 202 (currently in effect) and § 1911 (effective July 1, 2023).
